Principal Financial Group Portfolio Analyst - Asset Allocation in Des Moines, Iowa

What You'll Do

We’re looking for a Portfolio Analyst to join our Principal Asset Allocation’s (“PAA”) Portfolio Management team. In this role, you’ll provide support in the day-to-day implementation and management of multi-asset, multi-manager outcome-oriented strategies. These strategies invest in equities, fixed income and alternatives across both public and private markets!

Portfolio activity includes:

  • Client activity: monitoring, reconciling, investment/divestment and ensuring liquidity.

  • Rebalance activity.

  • Manager and asset allocation changes.

  • Generate and analyze performance attribution with a goal of understanding implications of portfolio positions and decisions. This includes writing and communicating insightful and succinct fund commentaries.

  • Run portfolio construction analytics and perform research to support portfolio decisions. This may include the development of new analytical tools to support all aspects of portfolio management and reporting.

  • Coordinate with internal constituents to enhance reporting capabilities and operational processes supporting the business, specifically across private market investments.

  • Establish and maintain thorough process and workflow documents.

  • Partake in the research, analysis and development of thought leadership content on topical investment ideas such as inflation, climate change, etc. This is aided by engaging and contributing to asset allocation, manager research and portfolio construction meetings and discussions.

Who You Are

  • Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in an investment related field preferred

  • 3+ years of direct experience in portfolio implementation/analysis/management

  • Strong analytical skills with hands-on experience supporting one or more performance or risk-based platforms preferred (e.g. Factset, Barra, Morningstar, Bloomberg)

  • Strong Excel skills a must (VBA proficiency a plus). Ability to program / code preferred

Skills That Will Help You Stand Out

  • Public and/or Private Market experience

  • CFA designation, or progression towards

  • Familiarity with an Order Management System (OMS) strongly preferred (e.g. Charles River, Aladdin)

  • Must be a self-starter with strong attention to detail, organizational skills, work ethic and ability to handle multiple tasks and requests from various parties in a timely and efficient manner

Salary Range Information

Salary ranges below reflect targeted base salaries. Non-sales positions have the opportunity to participate in a bonus program. Sales positions are eligible for sales incentives, and in some instances a bonus plan, whereby total compensation may far exceed base salary depending on individual performance. Actual compensation for all roles will be based upon geographic location, work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer.

Salary Range (Non-Exempt expressed as hourly; Exempt expressed as yearly)

$106400 - $182400 / year

Time Off Program

Flexible Time Off (FTO) is provided to salaried (exempt) employees and provides the opportunity to take time away from the office with pay for vacation, personal or short-term illness. Employees don’t accrue a bank of time off under FTO and there is no set number of days provided.
