Distinguishing Features of the Class

Under direction of the Parks and Recreation Supervisor, manages an individual summer camp program and site location; and performs related work as required.

Note: This position is a seasonal through September. 40 hours per week. Work hours vary on work assignment and may include evenings, weekends and holidays.

Acceptable Experience and Training

  • Graduation from high school or GED; and

  • Two years’ experience working in education, recreation, or related field.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Required Special Qualifications

  • Valid driver’s license or equivalent mobility required.

  • Candidates are required to possess a valid First Aid/CPR/AED Certifications or have the ability to obtain required certifications within three months of employment.

  • Candidates are required to possess a Mandatory Reporter Certification or have the ability to obtain required certification within three months of employment.

  • Requires satisfactory driving record and background check.

Examples of Essential Work (Illustrative Only)

  • Prepares work schedules for seasonal recreation specialists, recreation leaders, and other assigned personnel and supervises their activities.

  • Schedules, plans, and facilitates weekly staff training throughout the season.

  • Monitors participants and enforces rules governing the conduct of participants at the site.

  • Maintains safety of program and participants.

  • Plans and leads weekly and daily activities for program participants including, but not limited to, indoor and outdoor recreational and educational activities such as arts, crafts, sports, games, camping, and hobbies.

  • Sets up and maintains materials and equipment.

  • Plans, communicates, and executes transportation of program participants for field trips.

  • Serves as on-site contact between participants, parents/guardians, and program partners.

  • Resolves disputes between participants and addresses behavioral issues.

  • Maintains all areas of the site confirms space is safe, clean, and operational.

  • Keeps accurate schedules, incident logs, timesheets, and any other related documentation.

  • Keeps immediate supervisor and designated others fully and accurately informed concerning work progress, including present and potential work problems and suggestions for new or improved ways of addressing such problems.

  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
