Essential Key Job Responsibilities

  • Follows clinic procedure/protocol for the organization and management of the electronic medical record (i.e. test results, retrieval, filing, creation, repair, charging of electronic medical record).

  • Applies professional nursing skills in the provision of preventive health maintenance and treatment of ill and injured patients utilizing the four aspects of the nursing process: assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation.

  • Acts to facilitate interdisciplinary communication. Utilizes other members of the health care team in assessing the patient and analyzes patient data. Assesses learning needs of the patient and significant others. Gives clear and complete information to patient and family.

  • Demonstrates ability to recognize and assess urgent/emergency needs of patients and initiate appropriate emergency procedures as needed.

  • Assists with a variety of procedures, exams and/or operation of diagnostic equipment as assigned (i.e. colposcopy, endoscopy, tympanometry, treadmills, etc.). Proficient in IV skills and IV hydration.

  • Possesses knowledge of various payer regulations and functioning within those guidelines.

  • Completes medical records according to established hospital protocol.

  • Provides patient teaching and facilitates communication between physician, client, and other hospital personnel.

  • Evaluates and triages individual patients and physician/patient calls.

  • Provides mentorship and support to other clinical staff.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current RN License issued/defined by the State of Iowa.

  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider certified or obtained by the end of the orientation period (approximately six (6) weeks).

  • Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within three (3) months of hire.

  • May require Valid Iowa Driver's / Chauffeurs License required, must meet MercyOne's Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, must be 18 years of age and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.

  • Three years of RN nursing experience required. Two years of experience applicable to specified specialty (Pediatric Gastroenterology). Placing IVs / managing infusions for chronically ill patients.

  • Optaining medication prior authorizations preferred
