Join our Electric Vehicle Digital Design (EVDD) team for a 6-month Student Worker Program and help build the future of mobility! Immerse yourself in Ford's center of innovation and growth, working alongside top engineering, design, and software talent to create groundbreaking EVs and contribute to key technologies like batteries, charging, and recycling. This is your chance to gain hands-on experience and make a real impact on the automotive industry.
The Powertrain Structures Team is responsible for power unit case housing and structures design. This Structures engineers drive part placement and power unit architecture from concept phase thru part analysis, optimization, DFM, and eventually production. They integrate, analyze, and iterate the powertrain components both internally and in vehicle package.
This is a 6 month program
What you’ll be able to do:
Drive powertrain innovations of future technologies that provide benefit to the product; both short- and long-term roadmap items.
Perform rapid calculations and mechanical layout iterations in CAD in order to validate assumptions and funnel design concepts down.
Generate and maintain detailed 3D CAD of parts, assemblies, and production drawings. Foster good CAD practices.
Aid prototype power unit builds and drive development and validation testing campaigns.
Make drawings and perform power unit tolerance stack up analysis.
Investigate exploratory materials and composites.
Create robust designs for automotive application and for automated mass manufacturing.
Contribute to design reviews and requirements reviews to further optimize the powertrain system cross functionally.
The minimum requirements we seek:
Currently pursuing a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, including GD&T, and first principles physics.
Proficiency in 3D CAD software (3DX/ CATIA preferred) and 2D drafting.
Strong engineering fundamentals in the areas of materials, mechanics, dynamics, design for manufacturability, tolerancing, high precision metrology, process control, statistics.
Experience with CAE software (ANSYS) is a plus.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
Strong communication and teamwork skills.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks effectively.
Hands-on building and prototyping experience
Preferred Requirements:
Experience in Automotive or participation in competitive technical student club.
Familiarity with electric motor technology and principles is highly desirable.
Experience in high volume production.
