Job Description

Olsson is seeking an experienced Technical Expert to join our civil infrastructure discipline with a focus on the data center industry. You will be responsible for mentoring staff, quality control, technical excellence, and design reviews of the due diligence and site design phases of data center projects. This position provides direction on design and development activities across the firm to improve processes for services within the discipline or at times design new concepts. You will focus on technical performance and production as well technical innovation and quality related to the data center industry. In addition to the primary role of technical expert, you will also serve as the local area leader for the Des Moines office. You will spend some of your time working with key leaders to align and coordinate market-driven growth strategies with local client growth strategies, build the firm’s brand and reputation with clients and future talent, and enhance the firm’s employee-first, high performance culture.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Serve as a subject matter expert for the firm, acting as an advisor internally and externally and elevating the level of technical capabilities through mentoring of staff.

  • Lead engagement efforts within the community and foster relationships with key stakeholders.

  • Collaborate internally to develop and implement strategies and best practices that align with discipline trends and standards.

  • Supervise and mentor junior staff, promoting professional growth.

  • Communicate effectively with clients and present to diverse audiences.

  • Promotes efficiencies in producing quality work and ensures quality control standards are maintained.

  • Represents the firm and actively participates on governing bodies of professional organizations to elevate the profession and the firm’s brand.

Periodic travel for project-related tasks is required.

We have one current opening and will consider candidates interested in being located out of our Des Moines, IA office or working in a hybrid environment aligned with this specific location.

Qualifications

You bring to the team:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, urban planning, landscape architecture, or a related field.

  • Previous experience working within the data center industry, preferred.

  • Minimum of 12 years of relevant experience in due diligence and site design.

  • Strong communication skills.

  • Proven ability to work autonomously, demonstrating initiative, self-motivation, and a proactive approach to problem-solving.
