POSITION PURPOSE:

Responsible for providing leadership and administration of MercyOne Child Development Center and Preschool according to established policies and procedures provided by the State of Iowa and MercyOne Medical Center. Assumes responsibility for all departmental equipment, facilities, budgeting, monitoring, and activity reporting. Will oversee the Center’s curriculum and activities in providing a developmental program. Provides an environment that allows staff to maximize their talents through professional growth, involvement, and empowerment. Responsible for the development of positive relationships with parents, children, and families. The MercyOne Child Development Center and Preschool was established in 1974 and serves 190+ families and 300+ children. The Center is an Iowa QRS (Quality Rating System) Level 4 rated center providing quality care for children ages 6 weeks to 10 years.

  • Competency. Oversees a departmental staff development plan that assures competencies are maintained. Maximizes the use of hospital resources through a wide range of educational programming, e.g., in-service programs, seminars, conferences, literature review, etc.

  • Relationships. Establishes and maintains effective relationships with parents, children, local community partners, other childcare organizations for professional networking, internal departments, and/or regulatory agencies reliant on/or utilizing Child Care services.

  • Regulations. Maintains a working knowledge of codes/regulations that apply to areas of responsibility. Oversees and assures compliance with regulatory and accrediting bodies, agencies, and licensure boards.

  • Personal Growth. Takes an active role in enhancing abilities to carry out job functions through personal, professional, and job-related growth and development.

  • Performs other duties consistent with purpose of job.

  • Must have strong fiscal and business management skills, e.g., budgeting, use of data in decision-making, cost and revenue analysis, expense reduction strategies/activities, cost justification, etc.

  • Must possess excellent organizational skills in order to plan, prioritize, and manage multiple projects/priorities concurrently. Must be able to evaluate issues from a global perspective yet retain the ability to understand and focus on the critical detail relative to the delivery of the service.

  • Must be skilled in management technique, primarily in the areas of consensus and team building, employee engagement, delegation, conflict management, etc. Must have the ability to manage and motivate staff.

  • Able to develop and maintain a high level of trust and confidence from others through sincere, open and honest communication and a high level of demonstrated personal integrity.

What we are looking for:

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in Early Childhood Education or related field.

  • Minimum of four years management/leadership experience in an early childhood program or in a program serving children and families.

  • Previous day care center experience required with responsibility for operations and staff.

  • Experience in a previous site with infant and toddler care preferred.

  • Must have demonstrated experience in analyzing financial indicators and maintaining a department operating budget.

  • NAEYC membership desirable, but not required.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GroupWise) and Internet. Working knowledge of Child Care Management Software (i.e. ProCare).

  • Grant writing and fundraising experience is helpful.

  • Must have a valid drivers license.

  • Child and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training is required within 6 months of hire and every 3 years thereafter.

  • Certification in CPR and First Aid required.

  • Must complete annual continuing education in the field as required.
