What You'll Do:

  • Provide legal counsel on a wide variety of issues impacting the credit union including but not limited to: regulatory compliance; policies and procedures; contract review; loan workouts and collections; bankruptcy; mergers and acquisitions; litigation; real estate matters; loan documentation; retail deposit and treasury legal matters; human resources issues.

  • Manage relationships with outside counsel for strategic and efficient use of legal services, as appropriate.

  • Provide oversight of the credit union’s policies to ensure adherence to all applicable State and Federal Laws and Industry Regulations.

  • Provide guidance for credit union procedures in collaboration with business line leaders to ensure adherence to all applicable State and Federal Laws and Industry Regulations.

  • Collaborate with other departments to ensure alignment of legal, compliance, and risk management initiatives with the credit union’s overall goals and the credit union’s strategic direction.

  • Work with the Compliance department to ensure that the components of the credit union’s the Compliance Management System (CMS) continue to evolve to align with the depth and complexity of the credit union.

  • Monitor and report to the Board/Audit Committee on the credit union’s CMS, as applicable including significant compliance risks and corrective actions taken to mitigate those risks.

  • Provide oversight of the continued buildout of the credit union’s Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) program which is designed to ensure that significant risks are being mitigated through effectively designed and monitored operating controls commensurate with the credit union’s risk appetite.

  • Monitor and report to the Board/Audit Committee on the credit union’s ERM program and efforts including key enterprise risk indicators and action plans.

  • Monitor and analyze new or revised laws and regulations which will affect the credit union’s current operations and works with the Vice President of Enterprise Compliance to ensure managers are informed of new or revised laws and regulations affecting compliance.

  • Provide support for the Credit Union Service Organizations (CUSOs) and Corporate Governance Specialist as needed.

  • Assist with communications to State and Federal Regulators and other individuals and entities, as necessary.

  • Serve as a member of the Compliance Committee and the Enterprise Risk Management Committee.

  • Provide quality service to internal clients, credit union members and potential members.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You'll Need:

  • Juris Doctorate and admissions to practice law in the State of Iowa

  • 5+ years related work experience in regulatory compliance, legal, or enterprise risk management.

  • Strong experience and knowledge regarding the various laws and regulations impacting financial institutions.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Strong leadership and project management abilities.

  • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills.

Education

Experience
