Job Description

The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) is seeking a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join the team at the Glenwood Resource Center which offers a continuum of care to Iowans experiencing intellectual disabilities. This is a full-time opportunity with 8-hour shifts and a varied schedule which will include a weekend rotation.

This position is eligible for a $3,000 recruitment payment.

The Glenwood Resource Center (GRC) will be closing as a state operated specialty care facility on June 30, 2024. This position will end at that time. Applicants are encouraged to apply to gain experience in the areas of working for state operated specialty care.

Under functional supervision of a Registered Nurse (RN), the LPN performs technical nursing procedures and assures medical and nursing orders are carried out, treatments are performed, and all federal, state, local, and patient care standards are met. This includes general and emergency nursing interventions, performing physical assessments to identify health care needs, and documenting all assessments, observations, care, and treatment provided. Communication is a key part of this role as the LPN regularly shares information to RNs, physicians, as well as other team members as appropriate.

While providing direct care to individuals is the focus of this position, the LPN also plays an active role in the general operation of the facility as well. This position provides functional supervision of care provided by unlicensed nursing personnel, engages in performance improvement activities, collects and reports data, and implements performance improvement measures. There is support for growth and development as an LPN at GRC. Along with participation in interdisciplinary treatment teams, work groups, nursing service teams, and committee assignments, LPNs also attend seminars, conferences, and other trainings to stay current in evidence-based nursing care standards and to advance their knowledge in the field.

An LPN license for the state of Iowa and a valid driver’s license are required.

GRC provides residential services for individuals who have struggled to be successful in the community, gives in-home support for those who transition to the community, and assists community-based providers by providing assessments, training, and other technical support. The goal of all GRC services is to help individuals be successful in their communities.

If you enjoy working as part of an interdisciplinary team, helping to develop person-centered Individual Support Plans, while helping individuals stabilize and return to their community of preference then this is a wonderful opportunity to consider.
