Job Summary
Grinnell College seeks a part-time assistant coach for the men’s and women’s cross-country teams. Looking for a highly motivated candidate with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact professionally with all stakeholders. Success in this role means you will be able to work both independently and as part of a team, all while providing leadership in all aspects of the cross-country program consistent with our core mission and guiding principles. This position will be responsible for assisting the head cross country coach with recruitment efforts for the cross-country programs including social media design and promotion, traveling off campus for meets, maintaining contact with recruits throughout the recruitment process via email, phone, and video calls, and helping coordinate campus visits for prospective students-athletes. This position will also assist in practice preparation and execution, and competition/travel planning and coordination. This position also includes other duties as assigned by the athletic department.
This role requires the candidate to travel and work nights, and weekends.
Part time 975 hours annually @ $18.50 per hour
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assists the head coach in the planning and implementation of details in all aspects of the cross-country program, including coordinating travel needs (food, lodging, transportation) and set up for the home meet
Coordinates the recruitment of prospective students to Grinnell College, requiring the identification of academically qualified prospective student-athletes, ongoing communication with prospects, initiation of applications, and matriculation of prospects.
Participates in the evaluation of high school talent through high school visits, on-site competition observations at high school, regional, state, and national competitions.
Manages and develops communications with prospective students and alumni including social media management and newsletter creation
Assists with creating a team environment which allows all student-athletes to grow and develop as students, as athletes, as leaders, and as individuals, may include player counseling and related matters requiring discretion, decision making, and independent judgment.
Promote a culture of health, well-being, and safety in all aspects of the intercollegiate varsity cross country and track and field teams.
Performs other duties as assigned by Head Coach and/or Athletic Director.

Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree
One year or more experience
Champions diversity, equity, and inclusion
Ability to utilize interpersonal skills to effectively collaborate, motivate, and partner across all campus constituents
Demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and efficiently manage their workload
The ability to communicate effectively utilizing various modes of communication
Ability to effectively coach DIII cross country student athletes
Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of and/or experience in a residential, liberal arts college environment
Candidates should possess an understanding of NCAA Division III and conference rules and regulations
Preferred Qualifications
CPR /First Aid Certified
USATF level 1 Certification (within 1 year of employment).
Willingness to obtain USATF level 2 or USTFCCCA Specialist Certification
