The University of Iowa is recruiting an Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor for appointment in either the Department(s) of Surgery, Pathology, Molecular Physiology and Biophysics or Neuroscience and Pharmacology. This is a tenure or tenure-track position that includes a 12-month appointment, fringe benefits, and a competitive startup package. This appointment may be renewed dependent on external funding.

Given the rising rates of obesity and the obesity-increased risk in multiple types of cancer, the Holden Comprehensive Cancer (HCCC) at the Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa (https://cancer.uiowa.edu/) recently established a new Iowa Cancer and Obesity Initiative (ICOI) to promote institutional and state-wide cancer and obesity research. In collaboration with different academic Departments at the Carver College of Medicine, the ICOI is currently seeking outstanding and innovative faculty with expertise in the following research areas:

Obesity-associated chronic inflammation and cancer risk

Lipid metabolism in cancer/immune cells

Immunoregulation in obesity

Obesity-associated cancer therapy

Successful candidates will join the growing, cross-disciplinary ICOI with a highly collaborative and research-intensive community. The newly formed ICOI will collaborate with other major research programs, including Cancer Genes and Pathways, Experimental Therapeutics, Free Radical Metabolism and Imaging, and Cancer Epidemiology and Population Science at HCCC to provide opportunities for innovative translational research.

Education Requirement:

Candidates must have a PhD and/or MD degree or equivalent and applicable training to support the appointment, including clinical training where appropriate.

Required Qualifications:

Candidates must have previous records consistent with appointment as a tenure-track professor. This includes a PhD or MD degree or equivalent and an outstanding record of accomplishments in research, teaching, service.

Strong Publication Record.

Funded research program in the field of cancer and obesity or immunoregulation in cancer/obesity associations.

Candidates will need to demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills.

Certifications:

For appropriately board-certified MD/PhD candidates, any area of clinical expertise in Pathology and Surgery will be considered.

Desirable Qualifications:

Interest in and experience with cancer/obesity link, cancer immunotherapy, nutrition or lipid metabolism is desired.

Federal or Foundation funding as principal investigator desired.
