Essential Functions and Principal Accountabilities:

  • Provide direct management, leadership and oversight to the technology team, including application developers, system coordinators, technical business analysts, DBAs, data warehouse/reporting specialists and infrastructure staff.

  • Deliver innovative technology solutions to various stakeholders to improve the value proposition of Delta Dental’s products and services.

  • Responsible for identification and leadership of strategic initiatives involving information and technology solutions.

  • Oversee the ongoing maintenance and any needed development for the core claims, eligibility and billing administration system and all related multichannel applications (web, mobile, IVR etc.)

  • Analyze information and current/future technology needs from an operational perspective; determine requirements and resource needs; make strategic recommendations to SVP Technology and Operations.

  • Provide leadership for the design, planning, and implementation of enhancements to improve company operations and stakeholder value through technology development, including the research and implementation of new software solutions and e-commerce activities.

  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with external vendors and/or partners, ensuring a level of oversight that meets the business needs of Delta Dental.

  • Lead and participate in building and maintenance of the data warehouse/data repository and business intelligence environment, working to develop business user autonomy.

  • Oversee the development of information system security policies and procedures while ensuring adherence with regulatory requirements (i.e., HIPPA) and disaster recovery best practices, recommending new procedures and policies to mitigate risks. Ensure security is thought about in all areas of Technology.

  • Stay abreast of trends and innovations in technology that could benefit the organization and make recommendations to leadership.

  • Hire and direct the training of staff; conduct timely employee performance evaluations; identify employee development needs; and develop future leaders.

  • Prepare annual operating budget, forecasts, and other financial plans for the assigned area of responsibility. Promote our value of Exceptional Quality Service and commit to leading, supporting and developing a collaborative team environment.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in information systems, business, management, or related field.

  • 8-10 years of experience working in an information systems and technology role, with a minimum of five years in a technology leadership role.

  • Demonstrated experience leading strategic direction of complex technology environments.

  • Prior experience with software development, networking, database administration essential. Specific experience with database platforms (SQL/Oracle), Business Objects, web development (.NET and/or Java) and Microsoft CRM Dynamics helpful.

  • Experience leading large scale software development projects and strategies helpful.

  • Proven analytical abilities and problem-solving skills.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to prepare and present information to all levels of the organization.

  • Experience working both independently and, in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is essential.

  • Demonstrated project management experience with ability to lead, construct, coach and develop inter-departmental teams and team members required.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task responsibilities and to manage workloads to established deadlines.

  • Previous insurance/financial services industry experience preferred.
