Corteva Agrisciences has an exciting opportunity for a Seed Operations Plant Excellence Engineering Leader based in Johnston, Iowa.

The Plant Excellence Engineering Leader will have the accountability and responsibility of leading, creating, and implementing plant operations engineering improvement projects and initiatives at the global seed production sites at Corteva Agriscience. The successful candidate will function as a technical resource for the corporate technical team supporting and leading projects and process improvement efforts in production operations. This leader will be responsible for leading a team of engineers focused on improving end-to-end processes, plant equipment, and process controls at the seed production facilities.

This role requires superior leadership competencies, seed production process knowledge, process engineering, continuous improvement, and mechanical engineering experience. Seed business knowledge and seed production equipment and process knowledge is required. Operations and manufacturing experience and an ability to influence others is a necessity in this leadership role.

What You'll Do:

  • Develop a high performing team of process focused engineers that deliver rapid improvements in safety, quality, and productivity at the seed production facilities.

  • Possess strong leadership competencies and abilities with a proven record of delivering results through motivation and passion for improving processes.

  • Strong technical aptitude through demonstrated mechanical and process improvements in manufacturing environments.

  • Directly oversees and manages 5-7 engineers and is responsible for employee coaching and performance management.

Qualifications

Education:

  • 4 Year Mechanical or Ag Engineering Degree or equivalent

What Skills You Need:

  • Familiarity with the seed grain processing industry and its quality and safety standards.

  • Strong background in continuous improvement methodologies such as Lean, Six Sigma, or Total Quality Management.

  • Proven track record of leading global and diverse teams.

  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, as well as a solid knowledge of reliability principles, asset management practices, and maintenance technologies.

  • Change management expertise with a demonstrated ability to drive cultural change.

  • Experience in the agriculture industry is desirable but not mandatory.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally 15%

  • Technical Expertise

  • Support and improve current plant equipment, implement process changes, and develop systems to reduce operating costs, increase production, and improve quality.

  • Leads data analysis, loss analysis, and technical troubleshooting efforts.

  • Provides support data, data analysis, and technical recommendations for troubleshooting efforts, technical reports, and performance updates.

  • Utilizes Data analysis to reduce variability or improve performance.

  • Assists with designing solutions to eliminate equipment failures and process instabilities.

  • Develop controls engineering procedures, controls engineering standards, and controls specifications as needed to gain efficiency and proper quality control.

  • Travels production sites to engage with production operations teams and for troubleshooting efforts and improvement projects.

  • Process Improvement

  • Develops working knowledge of all process areas in the seed production facilities.

  • Assists with proposals to justify capital expenditures, help manage technical aspects, and assist with coordination of start-up of capital projects.

  • Recommends and implements process improvements to improve the overall operation efficiency where applicable.

  • Optimizes process by identifying and eliminating root causes of process variations.

  • Monitors process variables and recommends changes in operation for improved performance.
