JOB GOAL:

To advance the College’s mission, vision, principles, values, and strategic initiatives by delivering the highest quality testing services to students, faculty, and the public.

GENERAL JOB SUMMARY:

Kirkwood Test Center supports students, faculty, and the community through the delivery of accurate, efficient, and secure testing services. Our Center operates two locations—in Cedar Rapids at Main Campus and in Coralville at the Kirkwood Regional Center at the University of Iowa.

Under the direction of the Supervisor, the Test Center Associate plays a visible, responsible, and versatile front-line role. This position assists in the smooth day-to-day operation of the Test Center by checking test takers in and out, explaining our procedures and the rationales behind them, and working effectively with diverse individuals and groups in person, over the phone, and over email. The Test Center Associate administers exams according to written and verbal instructions and industry best practices, monitors the test rooms, enforces rules, uses sound judgment in ambiguous situations, reports academic integrity concerns, and helps students, faculty, and the public make the fullest use of our services.

The location and working hours for this part-time position vary based on availability. Generally, we have part-time shifts in the morning (approx. 7:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.) and afternoon (approx. 11:45 a.m. to 5:45 p.m.) at both locations, as well as shifts in the evening (approx. 4:45 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.) at Cedar Rapids. Hours may be fewer during summer and when classes are not in session.

UNIVERSAL CORE COMPETENCIES:

  • Advocate for Continual Improvement: Empowering each other to identify opportunities for excellence.

  • Collaborate with Mutual Accountability: Working together with a willingness to take ownership and account for our actions.

  • Champion Service: Anticipating needs and create a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive environment.

  • Perseverance: Commitment to excellence even in the face of adversity or delay in achieving success.

  • Lead: Regardless of title, through positive influence.

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deliver high quality customer service to faculty, staff, external stakeholders, and approximately 17,000 test takers each year.

  • Maintain an orderly and professional Test Center by enforcing our rules and adhering to academic integrity, exam security, and student conduct procedures.

  • Safeguard the confidentiality of secure processes, exam content, demographic information, and academic records.

  • Prepare and organize materials in accordance with instructions and established procedures.

  • Administer exams according to strictly prescribed procedures and standards, verify test taker identification, distribute and collect exam materials, and monitor the conduct of test takers.

  • Maintain working and updated knowledge of Test Center procedures and third-party exam sponsor policies.

  • Witness, gather evidence of, and report concerns related to academic integrity and test taker conduct.

  • Read exams aloud and scribe exams for students with disabilities.

  • Administer Virtual Test Center exams.

  • Perform general administrative assistance, including answering phone inquiries, responding to emails, and providing directions to other campus departments.

  • Troubleshoot and provide basic technical support on Test Center computers.

  • Quickly learn and use new technologies at a level of proficiency required for the duties of the position. In most cases, the introduction of new technologies will not fundamentally change the job description or make the position one that involves higher-level duties.

  • Work at the Test Center’s locations in Cedar Rapids and Coralville as needed. May include evenings and occasional weekends.

PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS:

  • Complete work accurately (with few or no errors), efficiently, within deadlines, and with minimal supervision.

  • Report to work on time, work scheduled shifts, provide sufficient notice of need for absence, and minimize unscheduled absences, tardiness, and early departures from work.

  • Manage time and workload effectively to meet deadlines and consistently perform at a high level during busy and non-busy periods.

  • Communicate verbally and in writing clearly and effectively and listen and comprehend well.

  • Make thoughtful, well-reasoned decisions and exercise good judgment, resourcefulness, and creativity in problem solving.

  • Demonstrate self-motivation, complete tasks without being asked or reminded, proactively identify problems and propose solutions, and adapt to new challenges and unexpected changes.

  • Respect colleagues, work well as part of a team, and make valuable contributions to help the group achieve its goals.

  • Possess the required skills, knowledge, and abilities to competently perform the essential functions of the job.

  • Consistently seek ways to strengthen performance and monitor new developments.

The statements contained herein reflect general details as necessary to describe the essential job duties/responsibilities and performance expectations of the job, which should not be considered an all-inclusive listing of work requirements. Individuals may perform other duties as assigned.
