SCICAP Lead Nutrition Staff in Leon, Iowa

SCICAP Early Childhood Program is seeking a professional candidate for a Lead Nutrition Staff for our Leon Early Head Start location. The Lead Nutrition Staff position will be in charge of all nutrition duties in the center including planning, preparing and cleaning up after all meals and snacks. Duties will also include following approved menus, ensuring all necessary supplies are available for meals, maintaining a sanitary work environment, and other duties as needed.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow approved menus, which meet daily nutritional requirement
    • Purchase food within budget based on menus
    • Keep current menus posted and sent home to the parents
    • Keep count of meals served at point of service
    • Work closely with nutrition specialist, classrooms staff, children and parents
    • Prepare all meals and snacks according to approved menus and CACFP Guidelines
  • Involve children in nutrition program
    • Preparing new and different recipes of routine foods
    • Serve family-style meals
    • Introduce new foods as per menu
    • Setting tables and cleaning up after meals
    • Plan and present classroom cooking/nutrition two (2) times monthly or as per Director.
  • Maintain a sanitary work environment and kitchen
    • Follow good personal hygiene practices
      1. Hair restraints, required
      2. Wash hands thoroughly and often
      3. Wear clean clothing and aprons
      4. Cover cuts and sores. Then cover bandages with a glove.
      5. Clean and trim fingernails
      6. No jewelry
  • Keep food preparation area clean and sanitized
  • Keep all equipment clean and sanitized
  • Be aware of and follow the daily/weekly/monthly cleaning schedule
  • Keep accurate and up-to-date records

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have current physical for start of employment and then every three years
  • No personal record regarding child abuse, sexual abuse or neglect
  • Must pass criminal record check to be employed (DCI)
  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Required fingerprinting every four years

EDUCATION

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
