JOB SUMMARY

This individual is primarily responsible for the performance of stress tests, nuclear stress tests, pharmacologic stress tests, patient monitoring during procedures, the administration of medications in emergency situations and the administration of medication for moderate sedation during a bronchscopy. Additionally, this individual is responsible for office related duties including scheduling, filing, and billing procedures

Position Purpose

Supervises exercise and pharmacologic stress testing using pre-established protocols. Provides Moderate and Deep Sedation for testing. Supervises cardiac tilt table testing using pre-established protocols. Explains procedure to patients and families. Recognizes cardiac arrhythmias and responds appropriately. Provides patient monitoring during procedures such as but not limited to; bronchoscopies, and tilt tables. Administers intravenous medications as necessary. Performs IV-line insertion, particularly with Nuclear Stress studies and patients at high risk. Informs patient of procedure to be performed and facilitates consent. Receives and records telephone requests for service and schedules patients for diagnostic studies. Performs office related duties including chart preparation, collection of patient information, and recording of daily charges.

What You Will Do

  • Maintains a functioning telephone to facilitate communication with the department when needed.

  • Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations.

  • Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.

  • Documents patient information in the electronic/paper medical record in an accurate, timely manner.

  • Guides and directs patient care activities for the above-indicated population, by utilizing clinical/critical thinking skills and evidence-based practice. Identifies and takes action to solve problems, supports process improvement teams, which influence customer satisfaction, clinical outcomes and financial stability.

  • Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs. Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center and MercyOne reflecting the organization’s Mission, Values, and Guiding Behaviors Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures.

  • Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment. Performs other responsibilities as requested by supervisor, manager or department head. Serves as a steward for the hospital’s human and material resources. Meets productivity expectations of department as defined by unit supervisor/director.

  • Utilizes and maintains appropriate supplies in department.

  • Supports staffing needs for patient care in multiple units, as needed, while being flexible with schedule and hours.

  • Maintains the ability to increase work hours during high department volumes and decrease work hours when volumes decrease. Adapts positively to the ever-changing health care environment by supporting technology and process changes. Willing to learn new things, is open to change and maintains a calm positive manner under stressful conditions

Minimum Qualifications

  • Graduate of a nursing program with a minimum of an Associate Degree.

  • Registered Nurse holding a current license in the state of Iowa.

  • Must successful complete annual cardiac rhythm assessment test.

  • At the end of one year of employment in the department must become validated in monitoring nuclear, non-nuclear stress test and perform moderate sedation during a bronchscopy.

  • One to two years critical care or cardiac stepdown unit experience preferred, with training in IV-line insertion. Demonstrated competence in critical care or cardiac stepdown preferred, with documented training in IV-line insertion.
