JOB SUMMARY

This position accepts the responsibility and accountability for the delivery of patient care during the cardiology patients’/families’ stay through the use of the nursing process. Directs patient/family education and delegates to ancillary personnel while maintaining professional nursing standards.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Assesses patient’s physical, psychosocial, environmental, spiritual, social and education needs. Strives daily to make Customer Service a focus. Evaluates and documents patient/family responses to nursing interventions while working collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team to achieve desired patient care outcomes. Guides and directs patient care activities to customize the above-indicated population by utilizing clinical/critical thinking skills. Attends and participates in departmental/organizational meetings, in services and educational opportunities. Serves as a steward for the hospital’s human and material resources. Meets productivity expectations of unit/department as defined by unit manager. Identifies/enters accurate charges. Utilizes and maintains appropriate supplies in department. Support staffing needs for patient care.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

Education [formal]: Graduate of a program in professional nursing. Current Iowa RN licensure in the state of Iowa. BSN preferred

Experience: Demonstrated competence and knowledge of cardiology patients with a least two years of cardiac step-down experience preferred. Previous experience in the care of the Cardiac Cath procedure patient,12 lead EKG's, arterial lines, vasoactive drips, moderate sedation and assisting with cardioversions/TEE's preferred. Must pass Cardiac Dysthymia exam yearly. Must pass ECCO modules with 1 year of hire or documentation of previously completed at MercyOne prior to transfer to department. (Contract staff not required to complete modules)
