Description:

Position Purpose:

The nurse assistant provides care to pediatric, adolescent, adult, geriatric, surgical patients under the supervision of the registered nurse. As a member of the surgical team, helps to provide a safe and secure environment for patients and staff. The surgical nurse aide assists in the implementation of the AORN Standards of Care, Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa and Operating Room Policies and Procedures.

What you will Do:

  • Assists with patient’s physical, psychosocial, environmental, spiritual, social and education needs.

  • Supports a plan of care throughout patient’s stay. Provide input/data on changes in the patient’s condition to the professional nurse.

  • Records patient information in the electronic/paper medical record in an accurate/timely manner.

  • Communicates patient information to the appropriate coworker effectively.

  • Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team in the provision of patient care to achieve desired patient care outcomes.

  • Recognizes personal learning and development needs.

  • Participates in developing their yearly performance goals.

  • Provides for patient comfort, safety, and protects dignity, privacy and confidentiality.

  • Performs other responsibilities as requested by Director, CNM, CL, Charge Nurse, Circulating Nurse or Surgical Tech

Hours:

7:00 a.m. -3:00pmhrs. Includes call in weekends and holidays.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

  • High School Diploma, encourage formal Nurse Aid course/training but not required.

  • Must provide proof of Basic Life Support (BLS Healthcare Provider, American Heart Association; or American Red Cross, Professional Rescuer-LIVE class only) via current card prior to employment or within 30 days of hire and maintains current status.
