Scheduled Hours: 10:45am-11:15pm.

Job Description:

A Certified Emergency Department Technician, accountable to a Registered Professional Nurse, performs various duties assisting the Emergency Department nurses and Physicians in the delivery of quality patient care, based on age, in accordance with the policies, procedures and objectives of the nursing service.

POSITION DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs routine treatment procedures, related to age, based on hospital policies, procedures, and protocols at the discretion of and based on the judgment of a Registered Professional Nurse.

  • Obtains vital signs and documents in the electronic medical record (EMR).

  • Maintains and respects all patient rights and care for the patient in a dignified and compassionate manner.

  • Performs a limited assessment of the patient, related to age, under the direction of a Registered Professional Nurse.

  • Provides assistance to physicians during casting, suturing, crutch training and other procedures as designated by the Registered Professional Nurse.

  • Observes patients and reports information or changes in the patient’s condition to the Registered Professional Nurse or Physician.

  • Assists with care, preparation, after care and maint ena nce of sterile and unsterile equipment, instruments, and supplies assigned to patient care and reports problems to appropriate personnel.

  • Assists in cost containment through appropriate ordering of supplies and equipment in the Emergency Department .

  • Helps to prepare the patient room and bed for incoming patients.

  • Assists in transferring patients to and from ancillary departments, patient units, and to their mode of transportation.

Qualifications:

Education and experience

  • Minimum of two years of high school, prefer graduate or equivalent.

  • Current certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant preferred.

  • Completion of Basic Cardiac Rhythm Interpretation class within 6 months of hire

  • Prefer current healthcare related experience in an emergency setting within the past five years.

    Annual requirements, licensure, and certification

  • Certification in BLS preferred upon hire.

  • Dependent Adult Mandatory Reporting

    Machines, tools, equipment and work aids

  • Preferred experience with c omputers and other supporting devices

  • Standard patient care equipment experience preferred.
