About our team:

We're looking for a Director of Operations with 15 years of leadership experience in a manufacturing environment to join our successful team based in our Muscatine, Iowa facility. In this role you will partner with executive leadership team to lead financial and operational effectiveness, maintain an environment of safety, trust and respect, and provide key leadership insights toward plant profitability, productivity and sustainability.

About the position:

Under the direction of the Vice President of Operations, Quality and Environmental Health & Safety, the Director of Operations plans, organizes, implements, and directs the activities, resources, and people for assigned site and corporate projects, initiatives and improvements in the area of responsibility. Ensures goals and objectives are clearly aligned with and implemented in support of the Company’s strategic plan. Provides leadership, development, and guidance to subordinates.

  • Works closely with Executive Management in the development of Strategic Plan and corporate goals/objectives. Influences and assists other areas of the business to align with and achieve corporate objectives.
  • Develops divisional/multi-site/corporate project plans, goals and objectives consistent with the Company’s Strategic Plan. Cascades information regarding Strategic Plan to subordinates to ensure Departments are fully aligned with the organization.
  • Develops and manages budget and utilizes corporate resources to maximize effectiveness across the organization.
  • Manage Senior Level Managers with advanced or specialized skills in a division and/or multiple sites.
  • Mentors and coaches employees, sharing job specific knowledge. Encourages training and development opportunities.
  • Manages performance through clear goal setting; engages in timely and meaningful performance evaluations and discussions to foster an environment of open communication.
  • Identifies, plans, develops, implements, evaluates and maintains key performance indicators, predictive and prescriptive metrics, labor, productivity and P&L information, and distributes data to key stakeholders.
  • Represents the Company in negotiations with suppliers, service providers and/or customers where outcomes have a significant impact on the company’s profitability and success.
  • Champions continuous improvement initiatives and fosters an environment where continuous improvement activities thrive. Leads with a sense of urgency that results in a commitment to quality results.
  • Utilizes comprehensive/in-depth understanding of customer requirements and focuses on high leverage opportunities to ensure customer satisfaction. Ensures all members of division(s)/functional areas of responsibility are committed to proactively meeting or exceeding customer needs. Demands excellent relationships with external and internal customers by setting an example for subordinates.
  • Proactively seeks opportunities to break down organizational barriers. Promotes an environment of collaboration, trust and professional relationships. Demonstrates highest level of commitment to teamwork and supports cross-functional team involvement.
  • Sets the standard for positive employee relations by treating all employees with dignity and respect, and by ensuring consistent and fair implementation of company policies across divisions/sites within areas of responsibility.
  • Champions safety as an integral part of everyone’s job and holds self and employees accountable to highest standard of safe conduct.

About you:

  • 15 or more years of professional experience, with at least 8 years of management experience is required.
  • 1 or more years of Toyota Production System (TPS) or equivalent Lean Management experience
  • Possess and apply a comprehensive/in-depth knowledge of leadership, management and project management concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • Demonstrate and apply comprehensive/in-depth knowledge of business, the material handling industry and our competitors, and technical expertise in functional area of responsibility. Successfully integrates such knowledge into day-to-day activities and decisions to positively impact the organization.
  • Recognized as a business and technical leader for the organization.
  • Exceptional analytical abilities and interpersonal skills.
  • Exceptional listening, communication, and negotiation skills.
  • Must set leadership example and foster a team environment by demonstrating flexibility, adaptability, and dependability.

It would be great if you had:

  • A Master’s Degree in Business Administration or related field preferred.
  • 5 or more years of Toyota Production System (TPS) or equivalent Lean Management experience
  • Material handing industry experience and experience in the technical competencies of the functional areas of responsibility is preferred.

About the total compensation package:

Salary - $144,000 - $185,000 per year. Compensation depends on the selected candidate’s education and experience.

Relocation – This position may qualify for relocation.
