Job Type: Full-time, multiple site locations, with overtime

Experience: 1 year preferred (Will train)

Reports to: Aggregate Manager, no supervisory responsibility

Wage: Starting at $26 per hour (based on experience and qualifications)

Job Summary:

The dredge and wash plant operator will be responsible for getting to their job site at multiple Iowa aggregate location sites in Clermont, Parkersburg, Clarksville, St Ansgar, Lawler, and Plainfield. You will be responsible for removing sand, gravel, or other materials using a dredge and operating other equipment, including but not limited to, a wash plant and crusher, by using a computerized control panel. Experience diversity by working at different locations and performing multiple duties every day. Primary Responsibilities:

  • Remove sand, gravel, or other materials in waterways.

  • Move levers to position dredge for excavation, engage hydraulic pumps, raise and lower suction booms, and control the rotation of cutter heads.

  • Start power winches that draw in or let out cables to change the positions of the dredge.

  • Pump water to clear machinery pipelines.

  • Lower anchor poles to verify the depths of excavations, using winches or scan depth gauges to determine the depths of excavations.

  • Direct or assist workers in placing shore anchors and cables, laying additional pipes from dredge to shore, and pumping water from pontoons.

  • Control pumps and pumping equipment.

  • Assist with machine maintenance, repairs, repair conveyor problems, and grease-moving machine parts.

  • Interact with department heads at the Corporate Office to ensure proper reporting of payroll hours, staffing changes, crew and equipment movements, production tonnages, mechanical breakdowns, and quality issues.

  • Perform daily pre and post-inspections with appropriate documentation in compliance with company policies.

  • Display a professional and courteous attitude to co-workers, supervisors, and the public at all times.

  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operation and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA.

  • Team player mentality and eagerness to cross-train.

  • Willingness to perform duties outside the normal scope of work as this job description is non-exhaustive.

Position Requirements:

  • Consent to authorization of a pre-employment work screen, Motor Vehicle Record request, and drug test.

  • Loader experience.

  • MSHA 46 and 48 miner certifications.

  • Mechanical knowledge.

  • Personal protective equipment is required.

  • Possess excellent communication skills and understand instructions in both written and verbal forms.

  • Dependability and reliability by showing up to scheduled shifts on time and being prepared for work.

  • A positive attitude is critical to ensure productive working relationships with co-workers and management.

  • Continuous exposure to weather elements including heat, cold, noise, dusty conditions, and working outdoors.

  • Overnight travel is not standard but may be required.
