Location Description Michael Foods, Inc. located in Norwalk, Iowa is a southern suburb in the Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan area. We are known for knowing our neighbors and enjoying a great quality of life! Our location produces high quality precooked egg patties as well as various French Toast products. Responsibilities The Maintenance Reliability Lead role, will work closely with the operations, engineering, and maintenance departments to ensure that a troubled equipment list is created, maintained, tracked, and communicated to the plant leadership team. This position will become a part of the manufacturing work system team and will ensure that work orders for these assets are in the backlog and planned accordingly. The lead role will work from this backlog to ensure that jobs are considered for the schedule every week by working with technicians to ensure that these improvement projects are properly executed, followed through, documented, and the value of the job is captured and reported to all levels of the organization. The lead will report Weekly and monthly to the plant leadership team, updating progress made and upcoming opportunities to improve. They will promote, mentor, and coach precision maintenance practices and will lead the facility’s lubrication improvement program. This role will become a resource to the plant who constantly focuses on improving the life of troubled equipment and improving the skill sets and performance of the maintenance team. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Enhance asset safety, reliability, and efficiency through planning, scheduling, and Maintenance, Repair, and Operations (MRO) process applications, including Precision Maintenance® techniques. Develop and implement reliability and performance improvement projects, supported by condition monitoring tools and real-time data from the Corporate Predictive Maintenance (PdM) team. Identify and mitigate critical equipment failure modes through root cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives, collaborating with vendors and internal teams. Oversee and improve quality assurance and commissioning processes for equipment, spares, and parts, ensuring compliance with standards. Support field balancing, shaft alignment, and procedural compliance, while leading or assisting craftsman on precision assignments. Coordinate maintenance training programs and track key metrics to drive reliability improvements. Plan and support scheduled maintenance outages, while researching innovative methods to maintain and enhance equipment. Promote Precision Maintenance® practices with accountability, problem-solving, and cross-functional collaboration. Maintain a strong understanding of mechanical, pneumatic, and circulating systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and effective contamination control. Lead condition assessment programs and report on maintenance needs for production systems. Perform, interpret data, and report on the following tasks: Tribology (oil analysis) inspections, including data collection, oil changes, bearing change, maintaining quality of lube inventory and ownership of lube storage area Other duties assigned by management Adherence to plant safety, food Safety, sanitation standards, and following all GMP & PPE guidelines. Qualifications EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED: AA in Engineering, Operations, or Business Management, or applicable technical knowledge or Trade School required or 5 years of experience as a maintenance technician with an emphasis on rotating equipment and Maintenance Reliability tools and programs. PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: Ability to diagnose and repair all mechanical power transmission equipment. Knowledge of gear boxes, mechanical drives, variable speed applications, and Servo motors. Skilled within specific tolerances using various precision tools; Vernier calipers, depth gauges, dial indicators, etc. Understanding of PdM technologies and a sound background in other maintenance activities Desirable training/experience includes lubrication, alignment, balancing and equipment installations. An excellent safety work record and demonstrated safety behaviors. Computer competency including basic Excel, Word, Power Point Experience with SAP, Office, PdM software or systems desired. Read and decipher mechanical drawings, schematics, and piping diagrams. Proficient in knowledge of bearings, pulleys, chain drives, belt drives, and lubricants standards and applications. 480v 3 phase knowledge required. Knowledge and practice of NFPA 70E preferred. Good math, oral/written communication, and interpersonal skills Proven analytical, planning, problem-solving, and project management skills. Ability to be flexible and shift priorities in a constantly changing, fast-paced work environment. Ability to build and maintain positive working relationships with all team peers and customers. Maintain accurate records and data. Ability to travel for training and continuous improvement activities. Ability to endure daily, excessive walking, standing, crouching, lifting (excess of 60lbs), twisting, climbing, reaching.
