Location Description Michael Foods, Inc. located in Norwalk, Iowa is a southern suburb in the Des Moines, Iowa metropolitan area. We are known for knowing our neighbors and enjoying a great quality of life! Our location produces high quality precooked egg patties as well as various French Toast products. Responsibilities As the Senior HVAC Technician, you are responsible for the overall success of our HVAC operation, maintenance, installation, and repair of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration systems within our food production plant. As the sole HVAC technician, you will be required to support the utility department and collaborate across departments effectively to meet production needs. This position requires a strong commitment to safety as a core value and adherence to policies that ensure food safety and quality standards are met. Must be able to produce exceptional work as an individual or working with a team. The ideal candidate will bring advanced HVAC expertise, leadership abilities, superior communication skills, and a focus on continuous improvement HVAC-Specific Responsibilities: Operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair HVAC systems, including air conditioners, heaters, refrigeration units, and ventilation equipment. Conduct regular inspections and implement preventive maintenance programs to enhance system efficiency and lifespan. Diagnose complex HVAC system issues, replacing or repairing defective components such as motors, compressors, and thermostats. Maintain detailed records of all maintenance, repairs, and parts usage. Stay current with emerging HVAC technologies and industry best practices to drive energy efficiency and cost reductions. Oversee and pioneer capital project suggestions/requests to keep up with the needs of the current business. Coordinate with production and other departments to ensure utility systems meet operational demands. Create an HVAC training program that is designed to provide training and mentorship to utility/maintenance technicians to build departmental expertise. Planning and Scheduling Responsibilities: Maintain and update the SAP database through collaboration with planners. Support the maintenance workflow process alongside supervisors. Contribute technical expertise to asset management, including documentation and system optimization. Participate in facility maintenance budget planning and apply reliability principles to enhance cost efficiency. Preventive and Predictive Maintenance Responsibilities: Support preventive maintenance program improvements and execute predictive maintenance initiatives on all HVAC equipment as necessary. Perform analysis using tools like vibration analysis, oil analysis, thermography, and ultrasonic testing to improve equipment reliability. Contribute to root cause analysis (RCA) and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM) initiatives. Offer technical support for equipment upgrades, major restorations, and obsolescence conversions. Share knowledge and collaborate with internal and external maintenance teams to adopt best practices and benchmark standards. Other Responsibilities: Provide occasional off-hours technical support in 24/7 operations. Ensure full regulatory compliance in all activities. Participate in and facilitate plant audits as needed. Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS: EDUCATION: High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent. 2 Year Technical Degree from an accredited Technical School or College Current HVAC Certification EXPERIENCE: Minimum of 8 years of experience in Plant Maintenance, HVAC, & Reliability Engineering or similar technical role Proven experience as an HVAC Technician. Strong knowledge of HVAC systems and components. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills. Strong communication and customer service skills. Ability to work in confined spaces and at heights. Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work in various weather conditions. Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation. Preferred Technical School certification or apprenticeship preferred. Knowledgeable in the use of SAP Maintenance or another EAM/CMMS. Knowledge of industrial environmental requirements
