The Barn Technician position is based out of our Geode Boar Stud located near Danville, Iowa. This position is responsible for assisting the farm in meeting production goals while promoting safety and wellbeing of animals, self, and other team members. This position will understand swine nutrition, selection, genetics, animal welfare and animal handling.

Essential Functions:

1. Meeting company expectations for attendance at work and punctuality.

2. Working in and maintaining a safe work environment.

3. Perform all required duties in a timely manner as outlined in the S.O.P. (Standard Operating Procedures)

4. Maintain a good working relationship with all co-workers.

5. Understand and demonstrate company Bio-Security requirements.

6. Achieve Level III PQA (Pork Quality Assurance Training)

7. Understand and demonstrate correct animal handling techniques at all times.

8. Understand and demonstrate safe and efficient power washing techniques.

9. Understand and demonstrate the need for correct methods of medication handling and storage.

10. Understand and demonstrate correct methods of euthanasia and dead animal disposal.

11. Understand and demonstrate correct methods of treating and vaccinating of animals.

12. Understand and demonstrate general housekeeping and sanitation skills (example: laundry, showers, medication rooms)

13. Understand and demonstrate under indirect supervision semen collection and handling and boar handling.

14. Understand and demonstrate principles of feeding boars.

15. Show initiative to seek other work upon completion of a task.

16. Competent level of self-motivation to complete tasks.

17. Be willing to participate and take an active role in biosecurity and safety committees.

18. Be willing to participate and take an active role in system improvement teams.

19. Be willing to participate and take an active role in culling boars.

20. Be willing to participate and take an active role in maintenance of the facilities and equipment used therein, including welding, plumbing, electrical, ventilation and flush systems.

21. All other duties as may be assigned.
