OGDEN COMMUNITY SCHOOL DISTRICT Assistant High School Football Coach - Defensive Coordinator in Ogden, Iowa

Position Overview:

Ogden High School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Assistant Football Coach to join our coaching staff for the 2025-26 football season. The Assistant Coach will work closely with the Head Coach and other coaching staff to develop players' skills, foster teamwork, and ensure a positive and competitive atmosphere for our football program. This role is ideal for individuals with a strong understanding of the game and a desire to mentor young athletes in both sports and life.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist the Head Coach in planning, organizing, and conducting daily football practices.
  • Develop, implement, and refine the defensive game plan each week based on opponent analysis, team strengths, and areas for improvement.
  • Lead the defensive coaching staff in training drills, skill development, and teaching proper techniques for all defensive positions.
  • Support the development of players both on and off the field, emphasizing sportsmanship, discipline, and teamwork.
  • Help organize and run in-season and off-season training programs.
  • Assist in preparing game plans, reviewing film, and analyzing opponents.
  • Monitor and evaluate player progress and provide feedback for improvement.
  • Work with other coaching staff to maintain discipline and safety protocols during practices and games.
  • Attend and participate in all games, scrimmages, and team events.
  • Ensure compliance with school policies and the rules and regulations of the state athletic association.
  • Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school administration.
  • Assist in the recruitment and retention of athletes for the program.
  • Participate in team-building activities and community outreach to promote the program.
Qualifications:
  • Previous experience coaching or playing football at the high school or collegiate level, with a focus on defensive strategy and position coaching.
  • Knowledge of football techniques, strategies, and game rules.
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to motivate student-athletes.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and collaborate with other coaches, school staff, and parents.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive attitude, strong work ethic, and commitment to the success and well-being of the players.
