Early Childhood Education Faculty (adjunct)

Northwestern College is seeking highly qualified applicants to teach the online Birth through Grade Three Inclusive Settings Student Teaching course (EDU429). The course includes the observation, engagement, and instruction of a multi-categorical elementary resource program for children from birth to grade three while under the supervision of a licensed, qualified teacher. Students are required to complete supervised student teaching experiences in two different settings.

The online class starts Monday, January 6, 2025, and runs through the spring semester (ending May 11), during which the instructor will supervise the student teaching experience. EDU429 is an online, undergraduate course within the Bachelor of Arts in Early Childhood + Teaching Licensure program (https://www.nwciowa.edu/online/bachelor-of-arts-early-childhood-licensure) .

The education department at Northwestern uses a “teacher as servant” model that prepares teachers to do God’s work in the world at public and private pre-K–12 schools. Online faculty teach courses remotely using Blackboard. Individuals whose initial application materials indicate a fit with the department’s needs will be invited for an interview.

Job description:

  • Engage students through reflection of teaching practices and continued growth

  • Collaborate with cooperating teachers in the student placement

  • Virtually observe bi-weekly lessons for each student teacher

  • Provide rich and timely feedback on student assessments

  • Regularly interact with students outside of the traditional workday

  • Facilitate academic, personal and spiritual growth

  • Interact and collaborate with full-time NWC content area faculty

Minimum requirements:

  • Master’s degree in education

  • Educator license in the following areas: Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, and Elementary Education (if in Iowa, Endorsement 1001,100, or 262 preferred)

  • Minimum of 3 years work experience

  • Superior written communication and interpersonal skills

  • Experience teaching and learning in the online environment preferred

  • Adept with technology, including the Internet, learning management systems and Microsoft Office programs. Blackboard experience a plus.

  • Must own a reliable, portable computer with Internet connection

  • Flexible schedule; must be willing to work with students outside of the traditional workday

  • Highly self-directed
