M.A. Counseling Program Director

Northwestern College seeks a visionary and experienced counselor educator to serve as its director for the clinical mental health counseling (https://www.nwciowa.edu/graduate/master-of-arts-mental-health-counseling) and school counseling (https://www.nwciowa.edu/graduate/master-of-arts-school-counseling) programs within the Graduate & Professional Studies division. This is a 12-month (30-credit) full-time tenure-track (open rank) position with 50% administrative release, beginning August 2024. The successful candidate will cast a vision for the programs, collaborate with college stakeholders, develop curriculum, establish program policies, lead accreditation and admission efforts, assist in hiring counseling faculty, and teach within the program.

Northwestern’s counseling curriculum incorporates a rigorous program of study aligned with the standards of the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Northwestern’s program integrates a solid theoretical foundation and development of strong clinical counseling skills with a biblical worldview and Christian faith. Faculty teach courses in an accelerated format with a hybrid of synchronous and asynchronous elements. The programs are offered in a year-round cohort model.

Required Qualifications:

  • Candidates must possess an earned doctorate in counselor education from a CACREP-accredited program (or have a related doctoral degree and have been employed as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program for a minimum of one full academic year before July 1, 2013).

  • Licensed or eligible to achieve licensure in school counseling or clinical mental health counseling in Iowa

  • 3-5 years successful teaching experience in a graduate-level counseling education program

  • 3-5 years successful clinical experience as a school counselor or clinical mental health counselor

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience leading or participating in CACREP accreditation efforts

  • Demonstrated effective leadership experience in clinical practice or higher education

  • Experience teaching in a hybrid or online environment

  • Evidence of proven multidisciplinary collaboration across departments or agencies

  • Willingness to relocate to Orange City, IA

  • Entrepreneurial, strategic and visionary thinker
