Mitchell County Regional Health Center is in Osage, Iowa located in Mitchell County, which has a population of 10,600 people. MCRHC is a 25-bed critical access hospital, including a Level 4 Trauma Center Emergency Room seeing 3,200 visits annually. The Surgical Services department performs over 1,300 procedures annually, including specialties General Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Urology, Ophthalmology, Pain management, and Podiatry.

About The Job:
Seeking a remote medical coding specialist to help ensure the delivery of excellent healthcare services. The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge of anatomical and medical terminology, ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, as well as natural curiosity and an analytical mindset. While reviewing medical records, dictation, test results and other documentation, we'll rely on them to ask questions, connect the dots, and uncover information that may be difficult to find-all to ensure a smooth billing process. The medical coder will abide by standard protocols and guidelines of the profession. CPC coding certification preferred
The Shift: PRN-As Needed (hours are flexible, including evenings)
The Pay: $19.22 salary increases based on experience.
Location: Osage, IA. Will consider applicants from neighboring states- MN-SD-NE-WI-IL-MO ONLY. Please do not apply if you don't live in states listed. If hired, candidate needs to come to Osage, IA for pre-employment. MCRHC does not cover travel costs.
What We Need from You:
Maintains current knowledge regarding changes to CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes in terms of revisions to definitions and modifications of codes themselves.
Interprets provider service documentation and assigns accurate CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS codes.
Enters codes into computer system or distributes codes to other data entry staff.
Assists providers, PHO staff, insurance clerks, cashiers, and billing specialists, data entry clerks with interpretation of CPT, ICD-9-CM, ICD-10 and HCPCS codes as necessary to expedite billing to third-party carriers.
Responds to inquiries from internal customers, third-party carriers, and other external customers.
Maintains a current knowledge of government-funded programs and other third-party payors in order to effectively and accurately capture revenue.
Provides education to providers on required elements of documentation needed to support medical necessity and coding.
Maintains top-coding ability by taking approved professional education courses.
Position Qualifications:
Education:
Courses in medical terminology, , ICD-10 and CPT coding, anatomy and physiology and pharmacology.Coding Certification preferred. Experience:
At least two years of relevant health care experience or one year experience in CPT and ICD-10 coding systems preferred.
