The Valent BioSciences manufacturing site located on an expansive 73-acre site in Osage, IA is a state of the art 130,000 square foot plant and is the largest purpose-built biorational facility in the world. It serves as the manufacturing and quality control center for Valent BioSciences broad portfolio of fermentation products.

Description of Job:

As the Maintenance Technician/Planner at Valent BioSciences, you will be in a dual role, performing maintenance tasks and acting as a backup to the maintenance coordinator managing the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance Technician Tasks:

  • Perform hands-on maintenance duties, which could include repairing equipment, performing routine inspections, and ensuring that all machinery and systems are functioning correctly.

  • Perform as a lead technician related to, primarily, mechanical aspects process and utility equipment. Typical equipment includes pumps, seals, tanks, piping, agitators, and other similar rotating equipment.

  • Coordinate closely with installing contractors and equipment suppliers.

  • Build preventative maintenance and/or other appropriate maintenance routines.

  • Assist various members of the management team in developing key programs and initiatives related to safety and maintenance.

  • Perform in a backup role for other plant equipment, including but not limited to electric motors, boilers, chillers, air compressors, and water treatment systems.

  • Maintenance Planner Tasks:

  • Assist and step in for the maintenance coordinator when needed. This involves managing the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), which includes:

  • Planning Work Orders: Organizing and scheduling maintenance tasks.

  • Maintenance Schedules: Ensuring that regular maintenance is carried out on time to prevent equipment breakdowns.

  • Parts Inventory: Managing and tracking the availability of parts needed for repairs and maintenance.

  • Preventative Maintenance: Overseeing activities that prevent equipment failures and extend the lifespan of machinery.

  • This role requires both technical skills in maintenance and organizational skills in managing maintenance operations through the CMMS.

    Additional Responsibilities/Tasks:

  • Evaluate and recommend maintenance management infrastructure requirements.

  • Lead the development of comprehensive equipment database in asset management software.

  • Using OEM manuals, develop and evaluate PM procedures.

  • Works as a liaison between Maintenance and Production to assist in scheduling of work.

  • Additional duties as required.

    Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • 5+ years relevant experience, including electrical/mechanical maintenance and work order protocol.

  • Experience in the installation and/or operation of mechanical equipment in a process facility.

  • 5-7 years of manufacturing maintenance experience

  • 2+ years CMMS planning experience
