The Valent BioSciences manufacturing site located on an expansive 73-acre site in Osage, IA is a state of the art 130,000 square foot plant and is the largest purpose-built biorational facility in the world. It serves as the manufacturing and quality control center for Valent BioSciences broad portfolio of fermentation products.

Description of Job:

As the Sr Quality Manager at Valent Biosciences, your primary responsibility will be to oversee and manage the Quality Control (QC), Quality Assurance (QA), Insectary, Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) study program, and ISO program for our Osage plant and Libertyville locations. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the final product release for our formulated, dried, packaged, and stored products at VBS's contract manufacturing partners. This role requires expertise in standard quality lab practices for EPA-regulated biological products and current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP). This role involves managing staff, ensuring project timelines, and demonstrating leadership in a multidisciplinary environment.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Sets QA, and quality planning objectives for the plant.

  • Lead and guide lab activities to meet strategic goals and manage QA support to align with business needs and timelines.

  • Participate in the Materials Review Board to address product quality issues.

  • Manage, develop, and coach QA staff.

  • Lead product disposition and ensure compliance with GLP, EPA FIFRA, and ISO/IEC 17025 standards.

  • Maintain and enhance the QMS, ensuring compliance, document control, nonconforming work, CAPA, and internal audits.

  • Develop and manage project plans, timelines, and lab resources, providing technical guidance and leadership.

  • Interface with various departments (development, operations, quality, compliance, regulatory) to enforce product quality systems.

  • Foster positive business relationships and make informed operational decisions independently.

  • Supervise and direct staff, ensuring policy adherence, effective communication, and timely issue resolution.

    Preferred Qualifications and Education:

  • A Master's or PhD degree or equivalent, with at least 6 years of science-related experience.

  • Minimum of 6 years of mid- to senior-level management experience in Quality Management.

  • Previous experience in manufacturing within a cGMP environment for products used in agriculture and animal feed.

  • Strong understanding of cGMP standards and EPA regulations for agricultural products.

  • Proven experience managing ISO programs.

  • Excellent interpersonal communication, public speaking, and writing skills. Ability to build essential relationships for program success.

  • Ability to analyze statistics, identify trends, and perform cost/benefit analysis to efficiently allocate limited resources.

  • A proven leader – adept at coaching, mentoring, and developing talent.
