Great Prairie Area Education Agency has an opening for an Agency Chief Financial Officer.

241-day contract

Benefits: IPERS, generous paid leave package and monthly cafeteria allotment of $2,000.

Position Overview: The Chief Financial Officer works in conjunction with virtually every position in the Area Education Agency. He/She must have a basic understanding of each service area; its goals, needs and priorities, both within and between service areas. He/She must understand thoroughly the procedures involved in building and administering budgets, in purchasing and inventory control. He/She must have an understanding of local, state and federal regulations that influence

the operations of the system. The Chief Financial Officer is directly responsible to the Area Education Agency Chief Administrator.

Qualifications:

Must have a minimum of a BA degree in either Accounting or Business Administration. Should possess above average skills in the areas of supervision and communication. Must be able to obtain a current Iowa School Business Official Authorization License. Should possess above average skills in the areas of supervision and communication. 5 years of related business experience.

Responsibilities:

  1. Develop and be responsible for good business practices in all phases of the Area Education Agency.

  2. Present to the Chief Administrator, Board of Directors, staff and public, meaningful and understandable financial reports.

  3. Prepare all monthly and annual financial reports for the Board of Directors.

  4. Assist in the development of the Area Education Agency budgets according to Department of Education guidelines.

  5. Assist in any audits of the Area Education Agency.

  6. Evaluate and update the program of the Business Department.

  7. Direct the work of the personnel under his/her supervision.

  8. Determine the priorities for the staff and make personnel recommendations to the Chief Administrator.

  9. Establish and support an accounting system to provide accurate financial records for local, state and federal funding.

  10. Prepare bidding specifications and standards when possible for the purchase of equipment and supplies.

  11. Assist local school districts in their accounting and computer-related needs.

  12. Responsible for facilities management including central office, satellite offices, and preschool handicapped facilities.

  13. Manage cooperative purchasing programs for the Agency.

  14. Participate in collective bargaining for the Agency.

  15. Participate in local, state, and national professional organizations pertinent to job responsibility.

  16. Assume such other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Chief Administrator.

  • Knowledge and demonstration of cultural competence.

  • Must be familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within the agency.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel between schools/sites served and outside of the agency.

  • Normal, routine levels of bending, carrying, climbing, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking.
