1 - First Shift

The Senior Project Engineer - Systems applies broad, in-depth knowledge of customer needs, industry requirements and multiple technologies to lead a team to deliver electrical/electronic systems to a portfolio of projects for a business unit. This position will lead the electrical/electronic team in identifying customer needs, specifying requirements, analyzing, and evaluating multiple solutions, developing functional and physical architecture, verifying, and validating high complexity control systems for Vermeer products.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Lead by exhibiting the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused and stewardship while modeling the associated behaviors. Supervise, organize, mentor and coach assigned team members in performance of their duties while influencing others to carry the Vermeer culture forward. Establish and monitor individual and team goals which are aligned with the organization’s strategies and objectives to drive key business results. Use expertise to ensure department is serving its internal and external customers and meeting defined expectations.

  2. Develop, analyze, integrate, verify, and validate highly complex control systems for Vermeer products, including responsibility for the high-level system architecture and performing trade-off analysis for design approaches.

  3. Responsible for identifying customer needs and translating these into detailed control system requirements. Lead the definition, analysis, and allocation of requirements across the various engineering areas, along with developing verification and validation plans.

  4. Lead team through life cycle of product development from planning and estimating E/E systems design to executing plan in an iterative and agile manner while providing complete transparency of progress.

  5. Provide technical support to other departments, including procurement, manufacturing, and service.

  6. Develop a culture of continuous improvement in process and method that enable and empowers the team to work efficiently in achievement of goals.

    Education and/or Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering in the field of Systems, Computer Science, Electronics, Software, Mechanical, Agricultural or Electrical Engineering.

  • Master's degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 10 years' experience in software, electronics and/or machine controls design; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience required.

  • Minimum two years of experience leading a team.

Computer Skills

  • Experience with Agile software development methodologies.

  • Strong preference for experience with model-based design tools, such as MathWorks MATLAB and visual programming environments, such as MathWorks Simulink, National Instruments LabVIEW and/or Danfoss PLUS+1 GUIDE.

  • Expert level knowledge in control system theory and applications. Preferred knowledge in the control system design for off road vehicles with CAN and J1939 communication protocols.

    Other Skills and Abilities

  • Proven ability to apply advanced mathematical concepts to the development of moderately complex control systems algorithms.

  • Experience in human-factors related to machine controls.

  • Proven ability to understand needs of customer and ability to translate into requirements and machine function.

  • Knowledge in the areas of electronic and hydraulics controls, including engines, actuators, sensors, wiring harnesses and safety systems.

  • Ability to maintain a positive, professional relationship when working with co-workers, customers, and the public.

  • Ability to communicate timely, accurately, and effectively, both orally and in written documents.

  • Strong problem-solving skills

  • Understanding of equipment manufacturing process.

  • Ability to coordinate development activities to release successful products.

  • Effective organization and project management skills.

  • Ability to lead change and influence others.

    Travel

Up to 10% domestic and/or international travel by car or plane may be required.

Work Location

HYBRID: Some of a team member’s day-to-day work may be best done at a location other than a Vermeer campus. Discuss specific arrangements with your manager.
