Avera RN-Surgery Department Manager in Sibley, Iowa
SUMMARY: Responsible for the initial development and daily operations of the operating and scope rooms and pre and post op units. Oversees, supervises, and directs staff and activities of patient care. Coordinates with clinics to provide maximum level of services to patients, staff and outreach providers. Manages and maintains surgery staff and patient schedules. As necessary, works in the department as part of the daily operations.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, developing, training, and retaining employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
Graduate of a CCNE or NLN accredited school of registered nursing required.
Bachelor's degree in nursing is preferred.
Minimum of 2 years of OR nursing experience or healthcare leadership experience.
Previous management experience preferred.
CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, and/or REGISTRATIONS:
Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Iowa and/or meeting the requirements of multi-state licensure required.
Membership in a professional organization such as AORN preferred.
Certified in specialty area of nursing practice preferred. CNOR strongly preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Provides for the analysis, collection and maintenance of records as needed by the Quality Assurance Department, Department of Inspection, Appeals & Licensing, OSHA guidelines or as may be required by the law.
Assists in preparing the departmental annual budget. Assists with appropriate action to assure that budgeted objectives are achieved, and that cost and expense objectives are met.
Selects, develops, and motivates team members processing efficient depth, breadth, and technical expertise to accomplish department objectives and to ensure the capability of assuming progressively more responsible positions within the department. Evaluates performance of staff, detects unsatisfactory trends and performance deficiencies and initiates necessary corrective action and development actions and plans (working closely with CNO/Director of Patient Care).
Identifies and recommends changes in departmental policies, plans or programs as they affect the morale, attitude, and retention of employees.
Consults and works closely with the nursing leadership team to solve operational problems and design methods and procedures to improve the efficiency, productivity and control of these operations.
Coordinates staff on-the-job training and orientation. Coordinates staff meetings and inservicing of new equipment/modules.
Coordinates the scheduling process and maintains appropriate staffing levels to maximize unit efficiency.
Maintains clinical competency to serve as a resource for personnel on the unit.
Responsible for assessing the financial and productivity aspects of outpatient surgery with the goal being that of improving and sustaining profitability.
Coordinates with Accounting Department to attain necessary financial reports and analysis to identify, improve, and maintain profitable outpatient surgery.
Keeps Medical Director and Hospital Administration informed of Outpatient Surgery Activities. Seeks assistance with problem solving as needed.
Performs both case- and surgeon-specific case costing.
