Position Highlights

Summary

  • The Co-Director of Nursing is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the long term care facility including quality of resident care, program/care management, environmental safety, budget management and responding to identified needs to ensure regulatory compliance and foster the highest degree of quality of care. Performs necessary delegation and coordination for clinical, operational and managerial activities to accomplish the objectives of the department. Effectively manages and directs the work of individuals or teams.

General Hours of Work

  • Monday through Friday (7:00 am - 4:00 pm)

Managerial Responsibilities

  • Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this department. Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing for RN. BSN needs to be obtained within 4 years from the date of hire. CEU’s obtained for continued licensure should be pertaining to Gerontology. At least 3-5 years of nursing experience with a working knowledge of medical patient’s required and geriatric nursing. Membership in a professional organization encouraged.

Certificate, Licenses, Registrations

  • Must have current Iowa license to practice as a Registered Nurse. Must obtain CPR certification within 3 months of hire date.

Essential Functions

Responsible for planning, organizing, implementing and maintaining strategies and initiatives for the following Essential Functions:

  • Plans, implements, and continually evaluates services provided by the Nursing Home department. Ensures the provision of cost effective, high quality services. Ensures there is a sufficient number of qualified and competent staff to provide services by projecting clinical and staffing requirements. Assures standards of practice are met by all disciplines of direct care staff. Monitors overall care of patients/tenants and establishes goals for service delivery.

  • Analyzes financial outcomes to operate the programs within budgetary projections, and appropriately manages variables to assure cost effective operations. Determines staffing ratios, productivity standards, space and equipment needs, and expenses and revenue to be used as the basis for the annual operating and capital budgets.

  • Implements and manages the quality improvement program to continuously assess and improve the performance of services provided. Implements and manages the compliance plan. Maintains patient/tenant confidentiality at all times. Ensures the programs’ practices and documentation meet local, state, Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance and other payor requirements as well as department and organizational policy.

  • Consults with and advises the Chief Nursing Officer and Senior Services Officer of operational issues. Designs methods and procedures to improve the efficiency, productivity, and control of operations.

  • Demonstrates Sioux Center Health leadership competencies through communication and relationship building, developing self and others, teamwork and fostering commitment. Manages the hiring, development, evaluation, counseling, and end-of-employment processes for staff. Assures that staff is properly trained and have the necessary equipment and supplies to perform the requirements of their job.

  • Maintains current knowledge base of clinical concepts, reimbursement issues and regulations applicable to the facility.

  • Maintains effective ongoing communication with medical staff community and all levels of supervisors and staff regarding standards, policies, quality improvement services and other factors that impact resident care and other facility services.

  • Develops, revises, communicates, and monitors application of all department policies and procedures.

  • Delivers a high level of customer service to all internal and external customers and ensures that all staff delivers the same level of service. Assures a timely and appropriate response to customer issues. Plans and leads various activities and meetings including professional advisory committee meetings, staff meetings, and customer service programs.

  • Is responsible to develop, communicate, and monitor application of the Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) program.

  • Performs other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
