EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

The Home School Assistance Program Teacher provides support to teachers, principals and central office staff as it pertains to understanding the enrollment process and requirements for the Home School Assistance Program. The Home School Assistance Teacher provides direct assistance to students and families enrolled in the program. This assistance includes access to curriculum materials, regularly scheduled visits to review progress and planning, and access to State required testing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Adheres to Board policies, district procedures, and contractual obligations.

Demonstrates ability to effectively communicate with principals, directors, and families regarding the Home School Assistance Program.

Develops and maintains an accurate roster of students participating in the program, including all necessary enrollment paperwork.

Maintains a schedule and calendar of required and voluntary visits with students and families.

Develops and manages curriculum library for the Home School Assistance Program. Responsible for inventory management of books and supplies including ordering and distribution.

Must keep current on laws and educational regulations relating Competent Private Instruction and Home School Assistance Program rules.

Analyzes student achievement data and determines appropriate action relative to such data.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Requires a degree in education and 3-5 years successful classroom teaching experience in the respective curriculum. Must possess proper state certification and licensure for teaching assignment. Employee is expected to demonstrate continued professional growth specific to their curriculum and instructional strategies.

COMMUNICATION SKILLS

Strong written and verbal communication skills are critical to the success of this position. Must possess the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of individuals and groups from all levels of the organization, including departmental staff, principals, and central administration. Communication will include individual or small group presentations as well as written communications and reports. Individual must have effective listening skills.

FACILITATION SKILLS

Must be an effective facilitator in a variety of situations. Must have the ability to facilitate group meetings and facilitate large and small group professional development. Group facilitation includes discussion as well as group problem solving processes.

PLANNING SKILLS

Must have the ability to plan both long-term and short term. Planning should include curriculum review and development, assessment, professional development, budget, books, supplies, and general logistical support.

ORGANIZATIONAL SKILLS

Position requires strong organizational skills. Must have the ability to organize and assimilate information, assessment data, supplies, scheduling, and other needs within the curriculum.

ANALYTICAL and REASONING SKILLS

Individual must have a solid background in assessment and have the ability to interpret data, which may be very complex and varied. Must be able to apply assessment strategies and link assessment data analysis to school improvement, curriculum, and professional development.

TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

Individual must be competent in technology. Must also have the capability to collect and sort data through technology.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Normal office physical demands. Certain head teachers may periodically have moderate physical demands and may be required to lift up to 50 pounds infrequently. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. Generally, employee works inside.
