Summary

The primary purpose of the Safety Supervisor is to: 1) monitor new associate orientation and ramp-in process; 2) assist with on-the-job training including Job Safety Analyses; and 3) communicate company rules and regulations and safety walkthrough findings pertaining to safety, hazardous communication, and ergonomics; and 4) tracking safety findings and corrective actions through service requests. 5) Manage OSL positions. The Safety Supervisor is responsible for stopping any unsafe act or conditions while conducting walkthroughs. As directed by Management, must be able to work off shift as required and respond to incidents at various times.

Principal and Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide on-the-job training and follow-up on hazardous communication, safety, ergonomics, and other subjects with associates throughout the facility. This includes new associate orientation (whether directly hired or through a temp agency) as well as Job Safety Analysis (JSA).

  • Educate facility associates, primarily salaried leaders, on safety principals and provide leadership, technical advice, and support to initiatives and projects which enhance safe efficient high-quality operations.

  • Conduct daily JSA audits and report findings to safety and operations teams along with corrective actions and re-training that is needed.

  • Assist Safety & Security (S&S) Manager in interviewing associates and gathering information on incidents and near misses and completed root cause analysis.

  • Attend and provide safety perspective for safety meetings, PSM meetings or any other safety-related meetings that occur.

  • Assist the S&S Manager in responding to associates needs and concerns for safety issues as they arise.

  • Assist the S&S Manager by taking & posting meeting notes for the safety committee meetings.

  • Maintain oversight and training for operational safety leads (OSL) and safety trainers on day and night Shift.

  • Assist in Corp Safety Audit and safety related documentation.

  • Support the site security contractors and initiatives.

  • Other duties as deemed necessary by the S&S Manager or Corp Safety.

Minimum Education

  • High School Diploma or GED.

  • Ability to read and write in English.

  • Math skills.

Experience Requirements

  • 2 to 5 years of experience in the industrial safety field and/or bachelor degree in environmental health and safety.

  • Computer proficiency with basic Microsoft Office skills.

Experience Preferred

  • Bachelor of Science degree (or other safety professional degree)

  • Associate safety professional certification

Environmental Factors and Physical Requirements

In stationary positions or moving for 12 hours on a wet, moist, dry and greasy floor which includes metal or plastic grating surfaces with up to four (4) hours in a single interval. Ability to climb stairs, upon equipment, catwalks, and work from various ladders. Exposure to and work in temperatures of <0 to >110 degrees Fahrenheit with ambient humidity, noise exposure of >110 db, and light intensity range of <50 to >100 foot candles. Bending, twisting, lifting, reaching, sitting, and grasping varies in repetitions, distance, degrees, angle, weight, height, longest interval of time, objects grasped, and body positions depends upon the maintenance task being perform. Must be able to lift and control weights up to 100 pounds. Must be able to bend down and to maintain a kneeling position. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions. Exposure to chlorinated water <50ppm, ammonia vapors >5ppm, dry ice, caustic detergents, lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, salt, and other chemicals found in a poultry processing operation. Must wear and/or use protective and safety equipment required for the job.
