Job Description

Iowa Workforce Development (IWD) is seeking applicants for the position of Apprenticeship Program Coordinator.

Domicile will be determined based on the hired candidate’s location at one of our IowaWorkscenters.

Description of work:

Program Administration:

Under supervision of the Director of the Iowa Office of Apprenticeship, the Apprenticeship Program Coordinator (APC) will manage, maintain, and oversee multiple registered apprenticeship (RA) programs throughout the state.

Primary functions include, but not limited to, the development of RA programs, revisions to existing RA programs, compliance/monitoring of RA programs, and regular communications with apprenticeship sponsors, intermediaries, and other RA stakeholders statewide.

The APC must also be knowledgeable of the federal apprenticeship database, RAPIDS, and input all the appropriate information needed for the development, maintenance, and tracking of RA programs statewide. The APC should have a high-level understanding of federal and state apprenticeship laws and policies.

Training and Technical Assistance:

The APC will serve as the primary source to RA Sponsors for technical assistance and training relating to policies and procedures, program development, and general RA inquires. The APC will also conduct information sessions, webinars, and other training sessions to various RA stakeholders throughout the state.

Other Duties Assigned:

Attends meetings and conferences; makes presentations to Department Administration, operating entities, employers and staff. Assists the Iowa Office of Apprenticeship team and Iowa Workforce Development Business Engagement Division in completing other duties as needed.

  • Communicate ideas and information clearly and professionally to individuals and groups.

  • Encourage and promote active partnerships at the state and local level with stakeholders.

  • Exhibit high standards of ethical conduct, honesty and integrity.

  • Identify and measure program outputs that contribute to IWD’s mission.

  • Collaborate and communicate with the department when issues arise.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Graduation from an accredited four year college or university and experience equaling three years of full-time work involving employment interviewing, counseling, management, program planning, or occupational, budget, or labor market analysis;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting one year of qualifying experience for each year of the required education to a maximum of four years;

OR

an equivalent combination of education and experience substituting graduate level course work in business or public administration, economics, planning or closely related areas for experience on the basis of 30 semester hours for each year of required experience to a maximum of two years;

OR

current employees of the Iowa Workforce Development Department can qualify with two years of full-time work involving employment interviewing, counseling, management, program planning, or occupational, budget, or labor market analysis.
