Lutheran Services in Iowa Community Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Educator in Storm Lake, Iowa

LSI currently seeks a people focused, results driven full-time Community Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention(CAPP) Educator within our Community Based Programs.

This position may require travel to provide support in the following counties: Buena Vista, Sac, Crawford, Cherokee, Obrien, Emmet, Clay, and Osceola.

What You'll Do

Provide direct services to clients; teach classes regarding specific community programming and assist clients in accessing community resources. Build and maintain quality district relationships and utilizes role-modeling and teaching in service delivery. Will plan and participate in activities designed to reduce teen pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases and other high-risk behaviors. Develop and implement strategies to address nonsexual risk and protective factors that aid in reducing adolescent pregnancy through classroom engagement with evidence based curriculum. Participate in efforts to increase community access to family planning services. Engage the community in outreach activities and build community relations through events and booths in local service areas. Meet with assigned individuals and groups in person via traveling by car to their schools, or other community settings. Work may occur during normal business hours and an occasional evening and weekend for an event.

  • Appropriate professional boundaries/roles maintained

  • School District and Community needs and abilities adequately assessed

  • Attendance, demographics, and lesson plans are tracked and implemented for groups .

  • Curriculums are implemented based on their current needs of school districts .

  • Classes are evaluated on an ongoing basis

  • Programming data is accurately tracked and documentation completed as assigned through care logic, fidelity logs and Iowa Grants.

What You'll Need

Bachelor's Degree in Social Work or other Human Services related field, such as: Psychology, Sociology, Counseling, and Human/Family Services. LSI also prefers one year of social work related experience or extensive training in children's mental health in lieu of the preferred experience. In addition, employees are required to complete twenty-four hours of training during their first year of employment and twelve hours each subsequent year.
