Position Overview
The 11th and 12th Grade Education Specialist is responsible for directly influencing the success of 45-60 high school students. The role employs project-based learning in a classroom environment, individual mentoring, data entry and tracking for outcomes, and employer engagement to help their student group confidently transition to life post-high school. This role is the fundamental base in enacting the iJAG mission.
Essential Functions
Builds a roster of students for the iJAG program
- Markets the program throughout the school
- Works with school administration to create a list of students that meet the program criteria
- Ensures students in feeder programs within the district are continuing in the program
Facilitates material through project-based learning (PBL) in a high school classroom
- Utilizes our 7 essential constructs to facilitate projects throughout the year
- Manages the classroom while actively advocating for student voice and choice throughout lessons
- Plans upcoming lessons and projects utilizing PBL methodology to engage students
- Liaises with parents as a stakeholder in student success through means such as parent-teacher conferences
- Creates an inclusive classroom culture and instills a sense of community among students
Enters, tracks, and reports on specific data measures
- Maintains accurate student information
- Inputs data into systems of record daily, e.g. model services/lesson plans, attendance, grades, etc.
- Maintains and updates any IDP/IEPs for their students, attends meetings for those as necessary
- Assesses the impact of iJAG on attendance, credits towards graduation, college prep course selection, and enrollment in AP or dual credit courses
- Analyzes data to identify any students in need of tutoring, mentoring, or other support
Works to actively engage students and employers in a future career-readiness capacity
