Job Description:

TITLE: Substitute Food Service Worker – Cook/Kitchen worker REPORTS TO: Food Service Director JOB GOAL: Prepares or assists in the preparation, cooking, and serving of a variety of nutritious and attractive foods to students in a safe and cost effective manner that supports the goals of the District. FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt Part Time/On Call Hourly QUALIFICATIONS: 1. Certified on an employees medical examination form to be fully qualified in health.2. High school diploma or GED.3. Must be able to read and calculate standardized recipes and have experience and/or knowledge in quantity food preparation.4. Regular attendance. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES/ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Follow oral or written directions.2. Use proper preparation of foods and is able to tell that these foods are of good quality by sight, smell and taste.3. Prepare main dish and other foods from recipes using knowledge of weights and measures and be able to adjust accordingly.4. Check with manager as to amounts of food to be prepared and to satellite daily.5. Assist with serving and clean up of all equipment such as stoves, refrigerators, pots, pans, and satellite equipment.6. Maintain high standards of sanitation and safety.7. Help in any areas when needed. May use all equipment.8. Assist manager in proper handling, storage, and rotation of foods.9. Notify manager when supplies are needed or when equipment needs maintenance or repair.10. Maintain records/recipes as needed in an organized manner.11. Perform all other related food service duties as directed.12. Required to handle chemicals in commercial strength detergents and cleaning solutions. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. Must be able to work in a standing and/or walking position for long periods of time under conditions of extreme temperatures.2. Must be able to frequently lift and/or move up to 53 pounds efficiently.3. Must have manual dexterity to operate and handle equipment related to all aspects of general food preparation in a way that ensures safety while performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, talk or hear, taste or smell, walk and use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate tools or controls. WORKING CONDITIONS: The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. 1. Commercial kitchen setting including (hard) surface floors and extreme temperatures ranging from 32 degrees to 100 degrees Fahrenheit. The noise level in the work environment is quiet/moderately loud/loud. 2. Employee must wear uniform and appropriate hair restraints (approved by Food Service Director and/or state/county authority) at all times in food preparation and dining areas. 3. Must have ability to tolerate chemicals in commercial strength detergents and cleaning solutions. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Days of service as specified in contract language. Salary established by the Board.
