Job Description: Elementary Interventionist Teacher
REPORTS TO: Building Principal
FLSA STATUS: Exempt
STATUS: Full Time, Salary

BASIC FUNCTION:
Help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development in a safe, productive and well-organized education program that aims to benefit all students.
SPECIFICATIONS/QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelors degree or higher in Education from an accredited college or university.
Valid Iowa teaching license with appropriate endorsements, specifically a reading endorsement.
Successful student teaching and/or prior teaching experience.
Completion of Child Abuse and Dependent Adult Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training.
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
188-Day Contract.
The VSCSD Board of Directors in negotiation with the VSEA establishes salary & work year.
EVALUATION: The Building Principal evaluates the performance of this job.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Adhere to applicable state and federal laws, rules and regulations, board policies and administrative rules.
Demonstrate organization and professionalism in fulfilling the responsibilities of the position.
Maintain a “service orientation” and treat all students, parents, staff, and visitors with professional courtesy.
Demonstrate a positive attitude toward school, students and job while communicating the same to the community.
Attend seminars, trainings, classes, and professional development as needed to stay current with state and federal regulations and requirements and maintain licensure.

Accept constructive criticism and suggestions while seeking to improve each performance responsibility.
Maintain professionalism related to confidentiality of student records and the school operation.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
Develop lesson plans and instructional materials and provide high quality individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
Evaluate pupils’ academic growth, and maintain data-based documentation of continuous monitoring, and prepare progress reports.
Participates and communicates with parents, teachers, and administration, through conferences and other means to discuss pupil’s placement and progress and interpret the school program.
Identify pupil needs and collaborate with teachers, administration, and families in assessing and identifying best practice for pupils' health, attitude, and learning problems.
Create an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and interest centers.
Select and requisition books and instructional aids; maintain required inventory records.
Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day.
Administer group-standardized tests in accordance with the district testing program.
Participate in curriculum and program development as required.
Participate in faculty committees and the sponsorship of pupil activities.
Prepare course objectives and outline for course of study following curriculum guidelines or requirements of state and school.
Lecture, demonstrate, and use audiovisual teaching aids to present subject matter to class.
Prepare, administer, and correct tests, and record results.
Assign lessons, correct papers, and hear oral presentations.
Teach rules of conduct.
Maintain order in small groups, classrooms and on the playground.
Counsel pupils when adjustment and academic problems arise.
Discuss pupils’ academic and behavioral attitudes and achievements with parents.
Keep attendance and grade records as required by school.
Plan and coordinate the work of associates and others in the classroom.
Uses data to provide instruction to students and to bring their skills to grade-level.
Uses identifies research-based interventions focusing specifically on individual student needs.
Provides data to school teams and participates in decisions about student progress.
Assists with identifying students for placement in intervention groups.
Provides diagnostic assessment for students as needed.
Supports implementation of assessment tools and data management systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to dial, answer and communicate via a telephone in a clear, precise voice.
Able to write and record reports utilizing basic computer functions.
Able to climb stairs or stand and walk for extended periods of time.
Able to sit, reach, carry, push, bend body at waist, bend both knees, twist, and stoop while handling items.
Able to read and interpret policies, procedures and employee handbooks.
Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds using proper lifting techniques.
Able to work outdoors for periods of time to perform functions such as Bus Duty and Recess Supervision.
Able to hear and speak in order to communicate with students, parents, co-workers, and supervisors.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Primary work setting is the Assigned Attendance Center but duties at times may require working within various attendance centers in the district or accompanying students to special events such as work experience or field trips.
May be required to ride a school bus or drive school vehicles to carry out responsibilities of the position.
Able to work outdoors for periods of time to perform functions such as Bus Duty and Recess Supervision.
May be required to work additional hours as required for special events or during certain times of the year.
