Description:
Position Purpose:
Responsible for obtaining and inputting information received for Home Medical Equipment (HME) referrals and follow through for compliance. This person will serve as a resource for internal/external customers requesting MercyOne Northeast Iowa HME services while collaborating with clinical staff regarding referrals.
What you will Do:
Receives and processes referral information for all potential HME patients while demonstrating excellent customer service.
Performs insurance verification for HME, prior authorization and follow-up.
Collaborates with clinicians for ongoing authorization for a variety of insurances.
Accesses pertinent patient health information on patients and enters into the electronic medical record (EMR).
Receives calls from customers and colleagues and triages to the appropriate discipline if indicated.
Compiles the packet for new patients to HME and transfers of care from other HME providers.
Schedules patient appointments for HME department and assists with scheduling/rescheduling assignments as needed.
Collects and tracks data as requested and enters into spreadsheets.
Maintains required department confidentiality and abides by HIPPA regulations.
Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments.
Takes an active role in enhancing ability to carry out job functions through personal and professional/job-related growth and development and participates in medical center and/or departmental education programs.
Communicates with and performs duties following the philosophy of MercyOne reflecting the organization’s Mission, Values, and Guiding Behaviors.
Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment.
Performs other responsibilities as requested by supervisor, manager or department leader.
Maintains a working knowledge of applicable Federal, State, and local laws and regulations, Trinity Health’s Organizational Integrity Program, Standards of Conduct, as well as other policies and procedures in order to ensure adherence in a manner that reflects honest, ethical, and professional behavior.

Minimum Qualifications:
Education [formal]:
Associates of Arts preferably in a healthcare related field
Experience: Must have experience of one or more years in a medical setting Previous HME experience preferred Proficiency with Microsoft products (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.)
Special Skills and Competencies: Must possess interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with internal and external customers. Must possess critical thinking, problem-solving skills, strong organizational skills, and utilize effective communication skills. Must be able to prioritize duties and function within a fast-paced environment. Proficient computer and typing skills Requires the ability to perform a variety of duties characterized by frequent changes. Requires a willingness to work until all necessary work is completed.
MOTOR VEHICLE:
All colleagues, who may drive on occasion for their job, are required to carry the minimum State of Iowa required car insurance on their personal vehicle and have a valid driver's license. Compliance with occasional driving requirements are the responsibility of the colleague and will not be monitored by Human Resources. However, colleagues could be asked to show proof of insurance or driver's license as a requirement for employment.
