Job Description

Southeastern Community College in West Burlington, Iowa is seeking applicants for a head coach to start a men’s and women’s wrestling program (Starting the program for Fall 2025 semester).

The Head Wrestling Coach is a full-time position that will report directly to the Director of Athletics and will coach and recruit for the program directly in line with all Southeastern Community College, Iowa Community College Athletic Conference, and National Junior College Athletic Association guidelines.

The Head Coach is responsible for recruitment of qualified wrestling student-athletes with a commitment to academic success, retention, compliance with NJCAA rules, ICCAC rules, and Southeastern’s policies and regulations.

The candidate should possess the coaching expertise and organizational skills required to coordinate, oversee, and organize all aspects of a successful NJCAA wrestling program.

This position is a full-time 12 month (261 day contract). Benefits include medical, dental and vision insurance, $ 50,000 life insurance, long term disability, paid sick leave, paid spring and holiday breaks, 15 days vacation, and participation in IPERS or TIAA Retirement Plan.

The Head Men’s and Women’s Wrestling Coach will abide by the employment contract and relevant policies and guidelines of the Board of Trustees.

Essential Duties Summary

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

+ + Learn and embrace Southeastern Community College’s mission, vision, values and goals, the comprehensive community college philosophy, and related Iowa Code regulations

  • Learn, apply and role-model all SCC policies and procedures; support and abide by strategic goals and expectations of accountability established by the institution, and the Athletic Department, respectively

  • Embrace and actively engage in continuous process improvement practices that promote regular assessment, support constructive change, and lead to effective improvements in SCC’s Athletic Department processes and services

  • Develop and maintain collaborative working relationships and open-lines of communication with students, colleagues, faculty, staff, administration, and the general public; contribute toward building a positive team working environment; treat others with respect and compassion

  • Apply ethical standards to work situations; make work decisions in accordance with SCC’s values and goals; show respect and sensitivity for cultural differences, and promote a harassment-free environment

  • Work within the SCC Athletic Department to develop and maintain a successful men’s and women’s wrestling program

  • Coordinate practices, recruitment, strength and conditioning, fundraising, monitoring, and reporting of student-athletes (academically and behaviorally)

  • Hire, train, supervise and evaluate assistant coaches and staff as appropriate

  • Aid in working with academic staff to ensure academic requirements are being met

  • Supervise SCC student athletes during practices, games, travel, and in general, throughout their entire experience at SCC

  • Adhere to all NJCAA and ICCAC rules and bylaws to ensure compliance

  • Serve on college committees as directed (i.e. recruitment and retention committees) Responsible for meeting any wrestling team roster quota as directed by athletic director

  • Coordinate programming with local teams and community

  • Help serve as the On-Site Administrator for home meets for sports if necessary

  • Commitment to the comprehensive community college philosophy

  • Monitor and administer the budgets for the respective areas of responsibility

  • Assist in Marketing and Promotion of Athletic events

  • Assist with EADA federal compliance reporting

  • Assist with department-wide fundraising initiatives

  • Other duties as assigned

    Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited 4 year institution

  • Successful collegiate wrestling experience is preferred.

  • Collegiate wrestling coaching experience is preferred

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

  • Demonstrated organizational skills and management ability

  • Valid driver’s license

  • Ability to work effectively with students, colleagues, and community, and to assist the athletic director, athletic department and student services departments in general.

  • Self-motivated, energetic and creative individual with leadership, planning, fundraising, and public relations skills.

  • Ability to handle confidential matters with discretion and perform with a high level of personal and professional integrity and ethics.

  • Ability to administer and maintain budget expectations

  • Strong human relations and interpersonal oral and written communication skills to interact positively with diverse personalities and populations.

  • Working knowledge of computer software applications, including Microsoft Office.

    Physical Demands

The Head Men’s and Women’s Wrestling Coach must have the ability and mobility to serve a rural area; travel is required. Individual must be able to work on a basis of “available as work demands” in addition to a fixed schedule. In addition, the individual in this position will actively promote a positive image for the college district.
