Job Title: Manufacturing Engineer I

General Function

The Manufacturing Engineer works with multiple manufacturing facilities to implement processes and procedures to introduce new products, improve safety, increase efficiency, and better quality. They will also work with on-site maintenance teams to resolve issues with existing equipment. This individual will work at the Chariton Produce Commissary 3 days per week.

Accountable and Reports to: AVP, Supply Chain Analytics

Primary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Manage assigned capital projects focused on plant safety, quality improvements, capacity enhancements, and labor reduction.

  • Serve as second tier support for maintenance of existing equipment if on-site maintenance teams are unable to resolve an issue.

  • Implementation of preventative maintenance procedures.

  • Assist with project plans, budgets, and schedules to ensure timely and cost-effective project execution.

  • Conduct plant test and trials to assess applicability of equipment.

  • Assist in implementation of new manufacturing processes and equipment.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure projects meet quality and performance standards.

  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and outside contractors.

  • Manage facility maintenance contracts.

  • Utilize project management tools and techniques to track project progress and performance.

  • Prepare and present project status reports to stakeholders.

  • Identify and mitigate project risks and issues.

  • Working knowledge of Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) systems.

  • Troubleshoot and identify PLC-related issues.

Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Ability to problem solve under time constraints.

  • Follows established food safety principles.

  • Work on business continuity projects.

  • Assist with Lean, kaizen, and production performance system.

Education/Experience Required to Perform Job:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or a related field.

  • 1-3 years of experience in a similar role, preferably in a manufacturing environment.

  • Understanding of utilities/equipment (mechanical, electrical, and plumbing)

  • Food processing experience preferred

  • Strong leadership, writing, and communication skills.

  • Competent in Microsoft Office Software (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).

  • Functional use of CAD Software preferred.

  • Experience using maintenance and production tracking software.

Physical Requirements:

  • Visual requirements include the ability to see detail at near and far range with or without correction, normal depth perceptions.

  • Must be physically able to perform sedentary work: occasionally lifting or carrying objects of up to 50 pounds, and occasionally standing or walking.

  • Must be able to perform the following physical activities: stooping, kneeling, reaching, handling, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions.

Working Conditions:

  • The duties for this position are normally conducted in a combination of office and manufacturing environments, including refrigerated environments. There is frequent pressure to meet deadlines and handle multiple priorities. There is exposure to noise from the manufacturing operation.

  • Must be available to travel between facilities as needed to support multiple manufacturing sites.

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, with Word and Excel software, calculator, telephone, Fax machine, and copier.
